Ethiopian Blue Tinge is an Abyssinian Emmer Wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. dicoccum). It is a cultivar from Ethiopia selected by Dan Jason (Salt Spring Seeds, BC, Canada). Its initial history is unknown and it grows in California. It is a very long awned spring type and has an intriguing dark purple brown seed color.
Emmer wheat is one of the three hulled wheats known as farro. It has strong husks that enclose the grains, These require pounding to release the grains from the husks.
