Pigeon Peas Bulk
Pigeon peas are different from sugar peas. Pigeon peas are important commercially in India, Africa and in the tropics. Interestingly, they are a great drought resistant plant but also do well in hot, humid environments. In some parts of the world they will grow like a tree or up a tree as a vine and native people have enjoyed their sweet and nutty flavor for centuries.
Ours are delicious and grown as an annual fresh from seed each year in a normal row crop fashion. Many places have to grow this way because the frost and cold weather will damage or kill the plant. We don't have that problem in Thornton - we just like to control the fields and growing conditions to insure quality and avoid cross contamination from other plants and weeds.
Try them with simple foods - country cooking - with garlic, onion, carrots and this adds high protein, sweet flavor and rich fiber to your meal.
