Description
Ethiopian Blue Tinge is an Abyssinian Emmer Wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. dicoccum). It is a cultivar from Ethiopia selected by Dan Jason (Salt Spring Seeds, BC, Canada). Its initial history is unknown and it grows in California. It is a very long awned spring type and has an intriguing dark purple brown seed color.
Emmer wheat is one of the three hulled wheats known as farro. It is a low yielding,awned wheat. It was one of the first crops domesticated in the Near East. It was widely cultivated in the ancient world, but is now grown in isolated regions of Asia and Europe.
