Sunset has all the best qualities of a runner bean. The gorgeous, uniquely colored, peach-pink blooms appear very early followed by plentiful crops of tasty beans for a long season harvest. The handsome vines reach up to 6 feet and create a fascinating garden centerpiece, especially when showered in blooms. Ours are row crop variety.
Runner beans have been grown in America as early as 1750 but originated in the mountains of Central America.
We used them successfully in a chili cook-off competition – well, one of our customers did! Ours are quite large and meaty – not tough or woody – and the dark rich color stays during cooking.
